This course surveys the lives and artworks of 14 great masters from the Renaissance to modern times. Arranged chronologically, the course will examine the innovations and legacy of Leonardo da Vinci, Albrecht Dürer, Artemisia Gentileschi, Diego Velázquez, Rembrandt van Rijn, Johannes Vermeer, Francisco de Goya, Auguste Rodin, PierreAuguste Renoir, Vincent van Gogh, Vasily Kandinsky, Pablo Picasso, Frida Kahlo, and Andy Warhol. Content and context will be explored with an emphasis on visual and verbal analysis and synthesis.
